Mmm..Pizza Night!

October 12th

I took this short video on our way to my mom's for a small birthday dinner. Kaylee must have known it was a special day for her because she was so happy and singing the whole drive there!

Kaylee Is Two!!!

Last monday Miss Kaylee turned two years old!!! Since my mom was in the hospital for a bit we decided to have a very low-key birthday dinner and cake at their house. Grandpa John bought her a small piano that is a huge hit with Kaylee. I wake up (as I'm sure my poor neighbors do too) to Kaylee pounding away on it and singing at the top of her lungs!!

I also bought Kaylee a new doll with a small stroller. This is now Kaylee's main priority! She calls her "baby cake" and insists on taking her out for a walk everyday. Brian will now load Kaylee in her stroller and bring along her "baby cake" and stroller and once they get to the wharf Kaylee gets out and pushes her baby up and down the wharf. I heard Kaylee singing in the hall the other day and when I looked she was pacing and singing her doll to sleep like we do with her. Very sweet. My mom said this is a great thing to do before baby Ana arrives.

Reaching The Two's

We are definately reaching the two's with Miss Kaylee. We are dealing with some extreme tantrums and she is very independant. If she wants to do something or go somewhere-she will. But as trying as these times are with her we are also seeing some amazing changes and things she is learning and doing. Everytime I update her blog I have new words she is saying and her vocabulary grows more every day. She is also doing great with counting still. Some of her favorite things now are dancing and singing. We watched "Momma Mia" yesterday which has been one of her favorite movies for awhile. Usually she will only stay interested in a movie or t.v. show for a few minutes which is fine with us because we want her to be a kid that enjoys being outside and active. But "Momma Mia" she will actually sit through the entire movie and at every song she will stand up and dance through the whole thing. Yesterday after it was over she spent all afternoon singing to herself. Pretty sweet!!! Since her 2nd birthday is coming next month we plan to get her a bike. We had assumed we had a little bit before she was ready for that but she surprised us all when she jumped on a tricycle and rode it down the sidewalk with no problem. I can't wait to get a video fo that for her blog! She is also is being very helpful. When I put clothes away she will put her clothes in her dresser. (ofcourse not folded though). Now when I do dishes she will grab a stool and stand next to me and rinse them. And now she wants to hold the vacuum and do that for me as well. I know once Ana is born she will be a great help. At least that is what I want her to think!

Mommy's Little Helper

Kaylee usually gets scared when the vacuum starts up. I will have to hold her in one arm and vacuum with the other. Which is getting very hard to do while pregnant. But yesterday she surprised me and not only didn't want to be held but wanted to vacuum herself.

Kay's "Pet Feesh"

I tied a stuffed fish to a string. And now Kaylee will pull it and run around saying "C'mon feesh". This poor fish is filthy now from going through bushes and dirt. It's helped us realize thank god we don't have a puppy because Kaylee would be dragging the poor thing everywhere!

September 9th

Kaylee got a toy bat today and Brian took her to the Wharf with it. What actually cracks me up the most is when she gets up and just walks away. It's a good look at how independent she now is! She does what she wants!!

A Little Dance

Quick Clip of Kaylee at the beach

Brian and Kaylee at the beach. Her favorite word right now is "vacuum" and anytime she hears something or something is loud she says "vacuum". That is what she was saying the sound of the ocean was. Then says "Bye" to all the boats.

September Update

Kaylee and Brian's favorite thing to do has always been a walk to the Wharf. Now Kaylee loves the ocean. As soon as Brian pulls up from work she runs out to the stroller and says "Walk"? And then "Walk beach"? She has become the total Santa Cruz Local! Everytime we are out, people I have never seen, will say "Hi Kaylee"! And on the beach she will watch the Volleyball players and yell "Go guys"!!
It's also been really good spending more time with Renee's 2 year old Cherry. Kaylee has really picked up new things from her that Cherry has learned in school. I've noticed Kay's vocabulary has really increased since spending time with her. Not to mention Kaylee is learning how to share and now asks when she can go play with Cherry. The other night Renee and Cherry stopped by on their way home and when it was time to go Cherry and Kaylee held eachother and cried. It was really sweet! I'm hoping we can get Kaylee into a pre-school soon. I think it will be really good for her and a good way to get her ready for the school years!

Kaylee And Cherry

Kaylee and I have been spending alot of time with Renee and her daughter Cherry who is a few months older then Kay. Yesterday, Cherry pretended she was the baby, and Kaylee pushed her in the baby stroller. They are pretty cute together. And I'm glad Kay has another girl her age to spend time with.

"Oh..what a kid"!

Kaylee and I were walking back home from Renee's last night and Kay pointed up to the sky and asked, "what's that"? I told her it was the moon. From that point on, everyone we walked past, she pointed and told them, "Look! It's the spoon"!

Kaylee And Her Words

Kaylee is learning so many new things and new words it's almost impossible to keep her blog updated!! I guess I'll start with this morning..Brian was getting ready to leave for work and had his travel mug on the counter. From that point on, all Kay wanted was "foffee", meaning Coffee. I asked her what she wanted for breakfast, either oatmeal or a scrambled egg, and she insisted on "foffee". I ended up pouring some apple juice in a travel mug and giving that to her. You could tell she felt very grown-up with her "foffee".
My good friend Renee just moved back to Santa Cruz so I've been spending time with her everyday. It's been really nice for both Kaylee and I. Renee has a daughter Cherry who just turned 2 years old so her and Kay are very close in age. It's been really good for Kay to get the chance to play with another girl her age. And I've noticed that Kaylee is picking up alot of new words from Cherry that Cherry has learned at her pre-school. We have also been really spending alot of time reading books together and anything like crayons we will count out one by one so she is really picking up on numbers.
And living next to the beach Kaylee has gotten very into watching people play Volleyball. My parent's took her for a few hours (which was so incredibly awesome for me)!! And Kay would yell at the players "Go Guys"!! My parent's thought this was soo cool. Now Kaylee will go outside and the college students we have in the building next to ours always tell her hello and she will say "Hi Guys"!!

A General Update

A General "Funk Family" Update....
Thought I would give an update on how we are all doing. I have been lagging on Kaylee's Blog so..
Kaylee has made some huge changes in the past week-We have been working with her on counting. She was doing great counting to three. Then the other day she was counting out pennies and putting them in her bank. She started with "one" then went all the way to "five". She is saying alot more words and is getting better at sentences. When we were housesitting at my parent's last weekend she had my shoes and was sitting right next to "Sugar" the cat. She told him "C'mon, put feet in shoes". She was trying to get his paw in the shoe. Sugar is amazingly patient with her. She likes to lay on the ground next to him with her head next to his and either whisper to him or try to give him kisses. She calls him "Mow". Then last week she was playing with a tricycle that belongs to our neighbors. Usually she will sit on the back of it by the wheel. But as I was talking to my mom on the phone I looked and she was sitting up on the seat and peddling it down our sidewalk all on her own. Brian and I have been wanting to get her a bike but figured she had some time before she would be ready. Now we know she can do it and are hoping to get her one very soon. The biggest achievement though happened this morning. I looked down the hall and she was standing right outside the bathroom. We have a safety gate that stays up in the doorway so she was standing right next to it. She had taken off her diaper and looked like she was getting ready to pee. So I told her to come and sit on her potty. We bought a toilet for her a few months back in hopes to get her used to it and it was in the front room at the time. She usually will play with it and likes to close the lid and use it as the step stool. But she came right to it today without her diaper and sat down. I was just excited that she understood the concept but was even more amazed when she began to potty in it. After she was done she took her diaper and threw it in the potty as well. haha. We cleaned the bathroom and moved any cleaners to a high cabinet and removed the gate. So now her potty is next to the toilet. I'm constantly amazed by her. She isn't even two yet and just grows more everyday!
As for her little sister: Ana Marie Funk, is doing great, and moving soo much! Kaylee calls her "Beebee Nanas". The other day I had Kaylee laying next to me on the couch and we were watching the Disney Channel. I love how cuddly Kaylee is being and was enjoying my life very much at that moment when Ana started moving all kinds. I couldn't help but laugh watching Kay next to me while my tummy was just constantly moving! I'm getting so excited to meet this new little Funk. Brian and I get a kick out of saying things like "Our girls" or "the girls". We picked red and black for Ana's colors. Kay's was the pink and brown. We have a baby dresser that is now completely full and I've been getting all the baby stuff from storage to clean and bottles to sterilize. Brian and I both are getting very into it!
As for me: I am definetly feeling very pregnant right now. I'm 6 months along and feeling very tired. I'm enjoying it all though! My friend Renee is moving two streets down next week and I'm really excited about that. I'm really wanting to hang out with a good friend and our daughters are only months apart so I know it will be good for Kay as well. I have noticed that with this pregnancy things are affecting me alot more then usual. As you can tell by my status updates, I am having a tough time with meighbor's and things going on in the apartment complex we live in. But when it comes down to it, I love my life and my growing family!

Funk Family Update

After a scary week with my mom in the hospital I wanted to do a quick update on the blog..My mom is home now. I think she still has some work ahead but absolutely doing better then she was. I was amazed at how good and grown up Kaylee was anytime we went to the hospital for a visit! Usually, with her being her normal fiesty self, anytime we go somewhere she wants to run around and explore. But everytime we went to see grandma debbie she held my hand stayed by my side and turned up the charm for the nurses that all thought she was a beauty!
Her latest thing though..I was putting lotion on my growing belly, and Kay looked up and pointed to it and said "ball"! And while Brian was laughing I told her "No, this is a baby in my belly". Well, she began demanding, "No it's a ball". And since that day everytime she see's my belly she tells me its a ball. It's pretty funny. She also calls me "jeja" when she is mad. She will point at my and say "NO! Jeja!!". She isn't even two yet!!

Kaylee and her first sparkler

Kay's First Sparkler 7/4/09

We spent 4th of July at my parent's. Ate some great food, played outside, then got to do some major fireworks. Last year Kaylee was asleep so this was her first time seeing any kind of firework. Grandpa John started simple and lit a sparkler for her. I thought she would be too afraid to get real close but she immediately wanted to hold it. You will notice the video is pretty short..that's because she came at me with it!! haha.. Then we got a bit bigger, she wasn't sure if she liked it, she wanted me to hold her the whole time and when it would really start she would clutch me as tight as possible and say "no". But then after it went out she clapped and wanted John to do another one. We bought some very large ones (that aren't very legal) and between the loud and sudden bang and then the enormous firework display above us..that was too much and she cried. So we went inside while daddy and grandpa john did the rest!

June 27th

I had my 4 week check-up last wed. and my mom and Kaylee came in with me. The baby is pretty low and having a hard time growing as much as it should. But the heartbeat is very strong and I have lots of movement going on. When I layed on the exam table and we started listening to the heartbeat, Kaylee was very excited, probably not quite understanding what we were listening to, but once I told her that was baby she started pointing to my belly and saying "baby"? I really liked that Kaylee was a part of that moment.

I will be getting my ultrasound next week, 3 weeks early, to see just how low baby is. But we also find out the sex so I'm really excited about that. Kay is talking more and more. Words are alot clearer now too. The other day my phone was ringing and it was a telemarketer (they seem to call 24/7). Well, Kaylee grabbed the phone and said "hello" and started talking. I could hear the guy on the other end trying to ask if her parent's were home but she just kept saying "hello, what doing". I thought it was really funny and just let keep talking away until I heard them hang up. Maybe they won't call so much now. haha

June 13th 2009

Brian had his state exam for his CAADAC on June 13th so we went a day earlier to Granite Bay to see my bestfriend, Ana and her husband Ian. Unfortunately, Kaylee had 4 teeth that had just come in the night before we left so Brian and I had absolutely no sleep. But we still had a great visit even though I wish it could've been longer. Ian barbecued and Ana is an amazing cook and I'm now hooked on her mashed potatoes!! Kaylee was quite the charmer always flashing these great big smiles at Ana. The first time Ana had met Kay it was love at first sight for both of them!! Kaylee is usually a bit shy around a new person and stays real close to me or Brian, but with Ana, she immediately was at her side. This trip was no different.

June 2009

Things have been pretty good here at the Funk House. Brian is getting ready to take his State Exam for CAADAC. We will be driving to Sacramento next friday and spending the night at my dear friend Ana's. Brian's exam is saturday at 8:30am. We are hoping to see some family before heading home. Kaylee is very into words that start with the letter "B". She loves to say "boat", "ball", and "Bike". She also knows that mommy has a baby in her tummy but she now points to all bellys and says "baby"? Luckily, no one has become too offended by this comment!! We have realized that Kay gets heat stroke very easily now. She had gotten it pretty bad when she was only about 6 months old and now it seems like even a little sun sends her temp. high. So we are being pretty cautious when we play outside now. You can also tell she is getting close to the "terrible two's". Quite a little temper on that girl!!

As for baby #2...I'm 15 weeks so I have another 6 weeks to go and we will find if Brian will finally get that Junior or I'll be the mommy with two beautiful little girls. To be honest, I will be stoked with either one!! Pregnancy symptoms have so far been much easier this time around. The morning sickness only lasted about a month. Ofcourse smells can still send me running to a bathroom!! I'd have to say I'm pretty content with my life and our growing family!!

Mother's Day Graphic

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!!!!!

A Funk Update

We had a really good Mother's Day, Brian took Kaylee to work with him, so I got to have the morning hours to myself. I could've slept in or read a book but I cleaned the house!! I've definetly changed...We then went to my parent's and hung out enjoying the great weather.

Kaylee is really beginning to show the terrible two's!! She loves to go "bye-bye" and when she can't she will go around the room and pick things up and throw them on the floor. I'm still trying to figure out a useful way of handling this....Wish me luck! :)

Baby #2 is doing great so far. I've had doctor appt. twice a week. And my teeth are a big concern for the pregnancy. Hopefully Medi-Cal will begin very soon because we found an oral surgeon that accepts Medi-Cal. Usually they say no dental work in the first trimester and especially no oral surgery during pregnancy but in my situation the problems I have with my mouth make it near impossible to eat well or gain weight. But so far so good. In fact I've already got quite the little belly going and I love it!!!! We have chosen names already as well. If it's a boy we will name him after Brian, Brian Elliott Jr. and for a girl, Ana Marie. Ana is my dearest childhood friend and Godmother and Marie is for my mother in laws middle name. It was important to me to have a good meaning behind the names. I get to hear the baby's heart beat this friday so I absolutely can't wait for that!!!

What We've Been Upto...

So, we now know my due date, which is November 29th! I have my first ultrasound tomorrow afternoon. Being 9 weeks along the baby is about an inch big!! Brian has been helping alot with Kaylee. She is over 30 pounds so I can't be lifting her as much now. But it's been nice, Kay loves to play with her friend and our neighbor Chucho right outside. They've got a bucket and shovels so they like to put dirt in the bucket and Kay then poors it all out and starts again. She is such the little girl now! And everyday she has a new word. Brian has his motorcycle running now and so she loves to show people "the bike" and then says "hot", because we always tell her that she shouldn't touch the bike right after it's been rode because the pipes are very hot. She is also saying "Mamo" for grandma and loves to point at me and tell me "no". Kaylee is also quite the entertainer. She loves to dance to any type of music and will run from behind the couch and say "hi" then start waving and saying "bubye" as she runs to the room. She will then walk on her tip toes to sneak up and then jump out to scare us. She repeats this whole show for awhile!

The Funk's Are Growing!

Yep, Kaylee is going to be a big sister! We just found out the night before last and after 4 tests that all read positive, we are finally convinced! I have a doctor appt. next week and will find out just how far along I am. We have decided on the name Billie Jo. Brian actually came up with this one. But I love it because of my Grandma Billie that was my best friend and my favorite grandma! Keep everyone posted!

A Kaylee Michele Update:

I haven't been very good and keeping posts updated so I thought I'd give the Kay basics!! Kaylee is growing so quickly. Most people that ask her age are amazed. Not only is she healthy but she is tall for her age. She has long legs like I do! Her words are getting better and now she loves to talk to people on the phone. My mom loves that when I call I can just hand Kay the phone and Kay will talk to her for 10-15 minutes. Her favorite things to say are: "what are you doing", "over there", "outside", "grappa", "na-na", and whenever she see's a cat she will meow or if she see's a camera she'll say "cheese". Oh and "hot" and "bu-bye". Everything is "Hot". She points to a light and says "hot", when something is cold she will lightly touch it and say "hot".
Her favorite things are: her school bus that plays music. She loves pushing it up and down the street. Her big book of first words from grandma Arla. She looks at that book for almost a half hour. And will mimic the faces the babies are making in the book. She loves her doll and her "boyfriend bear". We have a bear that has a leather jacket and when she first got him she would kiss him and hug him so we now call him "boyfriend bear". She loves to sit them up and when she eats lunch or snacks she also feeds them. She is starting to throw big tantrums when she doesn't get her way. Plus, she wants to play outside all the time but we don't have any kind of yard so I am enrolling her into a 1-3 year old gymnastics class at the park by us. It's for 8 weekends and parents take a part too. They learn somersaults and learn to interact with other kids. So I can't wait for that. I think it will be great for lots of reasons. I will post pics of that when she starts! Thats it for now!

A Kaylee Update

Kaylee changes so much so quickly! She is really talking now and you are able to understand alot of what she is saying, for example, she loves to say "hi" but she says it constantly. When she is doing something she isn't supposed to be doing she looks at me and gives this devious smile and when I say "no" she says "hi". Anybody that walks past us or our apartment window she says "hi". She is also starting to copy what I say. This morning I was saying something to Brian about a vacationd day and suddenly Kaylee started yelling "day, day, day". And when I say "I love you" she says "you, you, you". Another word is "break it" and that is when she is referring to something breakable like a glass or something fragile. She calls it a "breakit". Kay is just the funniest little person I know!!
